Shimmy Time

I’ve been taking belly dance classes for about 4 years now.  I’m not great.  I don’t dedicate lots of time to practice.  But it’s fun and I enjoy it.

I love to buy skirts and hip scarves for class, and I’ve bought tons of hip scarves, but they all have the cheap coins on them.  It’s difficult to find good coins anymore.  So I decided to make my own.

Hip Scarf7

I wanted to crochet my own scarf.  I looked for patterns, but I just could find anything that also had beads and coins.  So I just kind of winged it.  No pattern.  I bought some fabric, kuchi coins, beads, and thread.

I’ve never done beaded crochet before, so I looked for a few pins to help with that.  I just did a few chains with beads to go along the sides.

The fabric I hand sewed, with a basic rolled hem.  I’m not great a sewing, so it looks ok, but could be so much better.

I spent a ton of time preparing the coins and beads that hang down, then I hand sewed them to the fabric.

I’m pretty happy with the end result.  I could always continue to improve.  The kuchi coins have a great sound, but are super heavy, so I didn’t even use them all.  The next time I want to make a crocheted scarf with less coins, perhaps.
