Jonah’s Hands

Well, I’m sure everyone knows who he is by now, but I’m just enthralled by Jonah’s Hands.  I learned about Jonah in one of my Facebook crochet groups and I’ve been following him on Facebook ever since.  He’s been called a crochet prodigy, he taught himself to crochet at the age of 5 and at the age of 11 he is an internet sensation.  He even has his own company, Jonah’s Hands, LLC.

So what is it about Jonah that is awesome?  Well, a few things:

  1. He is a whiz at crochet, he taught himself to crochet and he is fast!  He is already marketing himself in the crochet world and has a blog and has recently published his first book, Hello, Crochet Friends.   I certainly plan to buy it.
  2. Not to be ageist or sexist, but he’s a little boy that crochets!  I’m sure we are all used to the stereotype that crochet is for old ladies.  And while I’m not old, yet, my husband likes to tease me about being an old lady with my crochet.  So I love when anyone breaks this stereotype.
  3. He was adopted by his American parents, but he helps to raise money for Roots Ethiopia, a charity to help improve schools and educate children in Ethiopia.  He also has a Go Fund Me to raise money for the charity as well as to help finance a trip so he can go back to Ethiopia, where he was adopted from.

On a personal note, my husband and I were on the adoption wait list for a couple of years before we decided to give up on adoption, so to me this part of his story touches me as well.

So, if you live under a rock and have not heard of Jonah yet, go check out his site, or his blog, or his videos, etc.  This kid is really inspirational and is doing good work.
